DUHAUT-CILLY, A.
Viaggio intorno al globo principalmente alla California ed alle isole Sandwich negli anni 1826, 1827, 1828 e 1829.
2 vols. in 8vo, contemp. half leather with gilt decorated spine. Marbled boards. Four wood-engraved plates a.o with views of Waho and Monterye. Pp. XVI, 296; 392. Second enlarged edition, first Italian edition of an account on the circumnavigation in the years 1826-29 by A. Duhaut-Cilly, French navigator and trader. He traded along the Californian coast and spent several months in the Hawaiian Islands, where King Kamehameha III dined with him aboard ship. This edition is particularly desirable as it is enlarged with P.E. Botta's 'Italiano/Sandwiccese' vocabulary, which includes several pages of common words of the Hawaiian language, as well as Botta's essay, "Observations on the inhabitants of the Sandwich Islands and California".
