4to (cm 23.5), late 18th cent. half vellum with corners, mss. title on spine, some browning inside fo rthe own quality of the paper, for else a good copy. Woodcut device on title showing a globe, pp. (16), 1-72, [73-81 omitted, counted as the folding world map], pp. 82-478, (5, of which 3 blanks), text illustrated throughout with several beautiful astronomical woodcuts, diagrams, numer. tables, etc. and 4 woodcuts with volvelles (at pt. 20, 25, 65 and 189), and the woodcut doublepage world map, counted as quire 'K'. One of numerous 16th-century editions of Apianus' popular geographical and astronomical treatise, in the enlarged and modified version of his student, the globe- and instrument-maker Gemma Frisius, first published in 1529 and further enlarged in 1530.
