ROSSI, LEMME
Sistema musico overo musica speculativa dove si spiegano i pi_ celebri sistemi di tutti e tre i generi.
4to, contemporary limp vellum, some browned here and there for the quality of the paper, overall an unsophisticated copy, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR "EX DONO AUTORIS" (in times past crossed by pen, but still clearly legible). Pp. (12), 179, (1). First edition of the first explicit description of the 31-tone scale. Lemme Rossi (native of Perugia, died 1673) was an Italian music theorist who was the first to publish a discussion of 31 equal temperament, the division of the octave into 31 equal parts, in his 'Sistema musico'. This work slightly predates the publication of the same idea by the eminent scientist Christian Huyghens.
