LANSBERG, PHILIP (1561-1632)
Philippi Lansbergi Tabulae motuum coelestium perpetuae ....
Folio, contemporary dutch vellum, a very good and fresh copy without the typical browning of the time. Allegorical engraved title with portraits of famous astronomers (Ptolemy, Aristarchus of Samos, Copernicus, Brahe), engraved portrait of the author at f. *7r (by W. Delff); 3 parts in one vol: pp. nn. 23, then pp. 24-79, (1 b.); 180; 186, (6); folding plate (Canon sexagenarium) at the end of 2nd part. First edition of the "Tabulae" which are perhaps his most famous work, and contain the coordinates to predict the position of the planets. "Tabulae perpetuae" were patiently compiled 44 years; however, they were not free from errors, due mainly to non-implementation of the recent discovery of elliptical orbits of Kepler (1622). Not in Honeyman collection, Houzeau & Lancaster; DSB VII, p. 27-28.
